Endangered Species Gallery

extinct species, dusky seaside sparrow
Dusky Seaside Sparrow; extinct 1987
Check out this great photo album of endangered species by National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore.

Pictured at left is the dusky seaside sparrow who lost a battle with DDT and habitat destruction in Florida and had its status changed from "endangered" to "extinct" in 1987. This could be the  very last one.

One of our Ecofest prizes, winners to be announced imminently, is a print of the dusky seaside sparrow by artist Joanna Barnum. Stay tuned!
